Justus has launched to Thailand! He’s beginning to settle in and get adjusted. Check out the June print issue (or online) to view the corresponding pictures Justus wanted us to share with you to let you know how he is doing.

We had a long but safe flight over. Justus did really well in his new car seat. It was snowing when we left Denver, and it was about 90 degrees and very humid when we reached Bangkok.

It is common to see girls carrying their younger siblings around. Thai families do almost everything together. Daughters help take care of the children while the mother is cooking or doing other work around the house. We are looking forward to Justus making friends here, and we hope that someday he will have Thai sisters and brothers.

Since moving to Thailand, we have been surprised to find that everyone speaks to Justus in Thai. People will try to speak to us in English as much as they can, but not with Justus. This friendly grandmother held Justus for several minutes and had an entire conversation with him in Thai. We don’t really know what they talked about, but both seemed happy!

Justus met another five-month-old boy one evening while we were eating at a little restaurant. The father of the other boy was excited to find out that Justus was the same age as is his own child, especially when we told him Justus’ age in our limited Thai. Justus is already helping us with our language learning.

Thai women seem to love Justus. He smiles a lot and likes to be held, so he is making lots of friends. This friendly lady at the hotel restaurant played with Justus while we ate lunch one afternoon. She was excited to show him off to all the other staff who also got a kick out of playing with the cute farang (foreigner) baby.

Justus’ took his first ride in a shopping cart at the Tesco Lotus (kind of like Walmart). He is still adjusting to the heat in Thailand, and he was glad for the store’s air conditioning.

Justus enjoys exploring his new surroundings, especially when Mom is carrying him. We are excited to be here in Thailand with him, and we are looking forward to helping him learn and grow to be a missionary.
