Rom Lee’s lips were blue; his clawlike fingernails a pearly grey color. He had no energy, and he was finding it hard to take deep enough breaths. His small frame belied his early-teen age, making him appear more like an eight- or nine-year-old. His father had come to us asking if we could help his son. We agreed to do what we could and began to look for a diagnosis. Fortunately, the symptoms were a textbook case and revealed that Rom Lee had a congenital heart condition that was preventing his blood from becoming properly oxygenated. After we shared his story with friends and family, funds came in, and he received surgery at the government hospital in the capital city.

Now, six years later, Rom Lee was standing in front of us, the picture of health. Could this strong, energetic teenager whom we had stopped as he ran out the door of his house to play soccer with his mates really be the same person? Incredulous, we asked his father, “Does he have any problems breathing anymore?”

“No,” his father replied. “He has plenty of energy, and he doesn’t have any more problems!” We praised God together that He had brought such wonderful healing.

But our goal is not just to help people live longer on this earth. We want people to undergo another heart surgery to prepare them for heaven. The Bible calls this surgery the “New Birth.” Please pray that God will use these tangible gestures of His care to bring a desire for that greater healing!
