The Secret Revival

“I feel filled with the Holy Spirit!” I was touched to hear my 8-year-old son say this as we finished a united prayer session at a recent series of revival meetings. The group was taking turns expressing their hearts, and it thrilled me to hear my son also join in and express his heart as the Spirit moved him. At the end of the prayer session, his face was full of joy. As I put my arm around him I noticed his eyes were spilling over with happy tears.
As I tucked my son into bed that night, he asked me to pray with him. He continued to commune with God after I went to my bed. I was about to fall asleep when I felt him hug me and ask if he could participate in more group prayer. After assuring him that he could, I thought his heart was satisfied. But it wasn’t long before I felt his presence again. This time he was weeping over his actions in the past. With a broken heart, he asked for forgiveness. I was overwhelmed to see how the Holy Spirit was working in his heart!
Prayer was the secret of my son’s revival, and it is the secret of all true revival. “A revival of true godliness among us is the greatest and most urgent of all our needs. To seek this should be our first work. . . . A revival need be expected only in answer to prayer” (1SM, p. 121). Our family has been immensely blessed as we have increased both the quantity and quality of our prayer life. “Much prayer—much blessing; little prayer—little blessing; no prayer—no blessing.”
