No Brakes

“The brakes are out,” Boaz said calmly as we headed down the extremely steep dirt road that led from our cabin. We were on our way to church to meet some friends. Now here we were gaining speed by the second. At the bottom of the hill that led down to the creek, there was a sharp left turn. Boaz had to make a quick decision. “Hold on!” he yelled as he jerked the steering wheel right and plunged us into the woods. It was a rough ride, but thankfully we only hit small trees, and no one was seriously hurt.

As we got out, we saw that our truck was dangerously close to a drop-off. “The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him and delivereth them.” We are still praising the Lord for His faithful watch care over us.

The unreached of this world—over 2 billion people—are daily plunging headlong toward eternal death. They don’t even realize they have no brakes! They don’t know there is a way of salvation. Boaz and I were amazed and sickened when we learned that so many people in the world have never even heard the name of Jesus! Oswald Smith once said, “No one has the right to hear the gospel twice, while there remains someone who has not heard it once.”

Isobel Kuhn said, “I believe that in each generation God has called enough men and women to evangelize all the yet unreached tribes of the earth. It is not God who does not call. It is man who will not respond!”
