Across the Sea of Fire

The little fire threw dancing silhouettes on the grass roof above Ramon’s head as he lay staring intently upward. “How could we have been so blind?” he silently cried to God. “The Batangan need Jesus just like we did before the missionaries came. But, for years now, we have assumed they couldn’t be saved. Today, as John talked with me, You opened my eyes. But Lord, what can be done? Who will reach the Batangan for Jesus?”

Ramon lay awake for hours praying before finally drifting off into a fitful sleep. As he slept, God answered his prayers by giving him a dream as He has often done at critical times in the work among the Alangan. He showed Ramon a vast sea of fire, churning and frothy as if a great storm were whipping it. On one side, Ramon saw an indescribably beautiful land and many Alangan church members standing there. On the opposite side of the sea stood the Batangan about to be destroyed by the fire. Screaming in terror, they begged for deliverance, but there was no one to help them. Then God’s voice boomed across the sea. “It will be through someone from AFM that the Batangan will cross the fiery sea.”

Ramon awoke with a start in the predawn. He was overjoyed at God’s answer, but he also felt a sense of urgency. The Batangan had to be reached before it was too late. Their time was almost up. Since that cool, misty morning when Ramon told me the dream he had just received, he and I have been praying and working to make it a reality. God has opened the doors and foretold this project’s success. Now we must go. Will you join me?
